Chandigarh, December 18

Satya Kaundal, a two-time BJP councillor, was on Wednesday elected the Shimla mayor while Shailender Chauhan, a two-time councillor from Mashobra, was elected her deputy in the 34-member Shimla Municipal Corporation for which election was held here.

Kaundal polled 21 votes defeating her Congress rival Rakesh Chauhan who got 12 votes. Shailender Chauhan polled 21 votes and defeated Congress candidate Sushma Kuthiala.
