All primary, middle, high and senior secondary government schools in the district will soon be turned ‘smart schools’. The deadline for the same has been fixed for March 31, 2020. The schools will also be taking the help of NRIs, NGOs and businessmen in this regard. In Ludhiana, there are 1,527 government schools of which 530 have come under the category of smart schools.
District Education Officer (Secondary) Swarnjit Kaur said they were geared up to convert all schools in the district into smart schools. “School heads are taking initiatives at their own level. In addition, we also keep coordinating with corporates,” she said. “The department is holding talks and meetings with organisations like CII and corporate houses like Avon, Vardhman etc, are giving us full support in the department’s initiative of turning schools into smart schools. The government is also providing funds to schools in this regard,” she said.
She added that regular meetings were also being held with teachers, school heads, principals and cluster heads to know about the initiatives taken by them in this regard.
The facilities provided in the ‘smart’ school include classrooms with LED screens and projector, e-content to teach students, CCTV cameras, sound and mike system, dining halls for mid-day meals, separate halls for boys and girls, facility of drinking water, corridors with learning aids, school uniform, including tie, belt and identity card, and the smart school will have a unique design of the main gate.
“In Ludhiana district there are 533 middle, high and secondary schools of which 375 have completed the parameters of being the smart school,” said Manju Bhardwaj, smart school co-ordinator. Meanwhile, there are 994 government primary schools in the district of which 452 have been turned smart.
