New Delhi, November 20

The Indian football team took on higher-ranked Oman in a do-or-die FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying round match in Muscat. However, it was a disappointing day for the Blue Tigers as they lost the match 0-1 to Oman.

Muhsen Al Ghassani’s first-half goal was the decider of the game as Oman retained top spot in the group. India are second to bottom with just 3 points. India has failed to win a single game out of their five so far and has to record a win in this tie to have any outside chance of qualification.

India had already lost to Oman in their home leg in Guwahati. Oman was coming into this match after an emphatic (4-1) win over Bangladesh at their home ground on November 14. India, on the other hand, were held to a 1-1 draws against lower-ranked Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

That’s the final whistle. It started with a penalty miss but Oman eventually took the lead and maintained the lead till full-time. Next game for India is in March.
