The Punjab government may not be able to pay workers on time due to lack of funds, but it is all set to purchase 20 luxury vehicles for Member of Parliaments (MPs) and MLAs.

The proposal for this has reached the Finance Department. After the seal of the department, Congress will replace the old vehicles of its MPs and some MLAs with new one.

Legislators have been demanding this for a long time. They said that the existing vehicles are more than 10 years old. Meanwhile, cars of some MLAs have already covered four lakh kilometers. The MLA has made his demand several times to Finance Minister Manpreet Badal.

It is not yet decided what these vehicles will be, but usually legislators are given Toyota, Innova cars, which cost between 15 to 23 lakh rupees. The financial condition of Punjab government is not good these days. This time there was a problem of giving salary of employees. After receiving GST 2228 crore from the Center, it is believed that the salary will be released on time next month.

Limit of 55 thousand every year for repair

The Finance Department has fixed the limit for repair of vehicles of MLAs. An MLA gets 55 thousand rupees a year for car repair. This includes repair as well as changing tires. At the same time, if the accident of the vehicle happens, then the MLA has to pay from his pocket. Government vehicles are not insured. In such a situation, in case of accident, the car is to be repaired at a fixed limit of 55 thousand rupees.
